In the tradition of the Civic CRX HF of years past, the new Civic HF has a similar goal of high efficiency with gasoline-only power, delivering a targeted EPA-estimated fuel-economy rating of 41 mpg on the highway.
Also delivering on the efficiency front is the all-new Civic Hybrid. With its all-new lithium-ion battery, the Civic Hybrid boosts its mpg numbers significantly with a targeted EPA-estimated city/highway combined fuel-economy rating of 45 mpg. The sleek new Si performs an engineering paradox by enhancing efficiency and performance simultaneously with its torquey new 2.4-liter i-VTEC® engine. The next-generation Civic brings enhanced styling, performance and efficiency across the model range.

2012 Honda Civic Si to get new 2.4L Engine – Ken Garff Honda
For those wondering if the new Civic Si will have a more powerful engine… look no further. Honda has released some good news for you. This article came from AUTOBLOG.COM earlier this month. As new facts on the horsepower and torque become available, we will certainly post it as soon as possible.
Honda gave us a preview of its 2012 Civic at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, and while the car we saw on stage was technically a “concept,” we expect the production car to look very similar, albeit with more conventional wheels, headlamps, and, you know, an interior. Instead of just showing one Civic, Honda brought out both a sedan and Si coupe concept, and now our friends at Temple of VTEC have reportedly confirmed that a new 2.4-liter mill is on deck for the sportiest of Civics.
Known internally as “K24,” the 2.4-liter engine slated for Civic Si use will be very similar to the powerplant currently used in the Acura TSX. No official power numbers have been divulged, but this engine currently makes 201 horsepower in the TSX, so we’ll bet that Civic Si output will be somewhere between 200 and 210 hp. That isn’t a huge increase over the 197 hp currently available from the Si’s 2.0-liter four, but the 2.4-liter engine should prove to be a bit torquier. Look for something along the lines of 170 pound-feet in the 2012 model, whereas the current car only produces 139 lb-ft of twist.
Official data will be revealed closer to the Civic family’s launch later this year. And while these new Si numbers aren’t leaps and bounds better than what’s currently available, the easily flickable driving dynamics and rev-happy power should still make it an engaging steer.
Not only is the Civic Si going to have a new engine, bu the Honda CR-Z is rumored to have an R-Type version that will hit dealers next year with either a 1.3 turbo, a 1.6 turbo charged engine, or something close to this. This one can be chalked up to rumor for the time being, but photos of what the R-Type will look like have surfaced. If you see the photos here on the back of the vehicle it says Hybrid. So not quite sure if there will indeed be a turbo engine or if it will be some sort of hybrid spin on it. We all hope that they will go with a turbo charged gas engine and leave the hybrid as the normal car. That is unless they come up with sort of variant that combines the hybrid with a powerful engine… but that is highly unlikely and a contradiction in terms. As soon as we get word from Honda it will be posted here for all to see. For now take a look at some pictures of the R-Type Concept.

DETROIT — The 2012 Honda Civic Si Concept coupe and Civic Concept sedan made their world debuts on Monday at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, previewing the production versions of the popular small car and targeting a growing number of competitors with an aggressive new look and multiple engine choices.
The ninth generation of the Civic will go on sale this spring as a 2012 model. Pricing has not been announced.
The Civic Si Concept coupe showcases a more angular face with a mesh grille and a tapered rear roof line. The Si Concept gets a rear air diffuser, a center-mounted exhaust outlet and a rear deck-lid spoiler with dual vents. Rounding out the package are 19-inch machined alloy wheels.
The Civic Concept is defined by a steeply raked windshield, a wide stance and pronounced character lines along the sides. Like the Si Concept, it gets 19-inch machined alloy wheels.
Honda said the 2012 Civic will be available in sedan and coupe variants with conventional gas engines, two sporty Si performance versions, one hybrid and a natural gas model. In its hybrid version, the 2012 Civic marks the first time Honda has used lithium-ion batteries in a Honda hybrid.
Honda did not disclose technical specifications on the 2012 Civic.
The Japanese automaker noted that most upcoming Civic models get EcoAssist technology, which debuted on the Honda CR-Z hybrid last year. This feature allows drivers to choose between different drive modes that alter fuel economy. Honda noted that it is expanding retail sales of the natural-gas-powered Civic GX model, the only CNG passenger car assembled in North America.
All 2012 Civics get vehicle stability assist as standard equipment.
The Civic is pitted against the redesigned Ford Focus, the Chevrolet Cruze, the Chevrolet Sonic and a new version of the Hyundai Elantra.
